Role overview
Use your knowledge of German as used in Germany to check the quality of speech data used in AI training. You will assess existing transcripts and word timings, identifying errors and explaining your decisions in English.
What you’ll be doing
- Compare recorded German speech with an existing transcript and assess whether the words have been captured correctly.
- Record every relevant error category, decide whether each item meets the audit standard, and give a brief written explanation.
- Check that the beginning and end of each labelled word line up with the recording and that the reference text matches the speech.
- Repair inaccurate timing boundaries, divide or combine segments when necessary, and add omitted words or remove empty segments.
- Highlight the most serious errors first and apply the same written rules consistently across your reviews.
Who this could suit
People with transcription, subtitling, localisation, language annotation or quality-review experience who enjoy close listening and precise feedback. A linguistics or phonetics background, experience with waveform tools, and previous AI data work are helpful but optional.
What you’ll need
Native or near-native ability in German as used in Germany is required. You must also either have been born and brought up in an area where this language variety predominates, or be fully fluent and have lived in such an area for at least five years. These language and regional-background conditions are mandatory. You need strong written and reading English to follow the audit manual and explain decisions, careful listening to distinguish similar sounds and word boundaries, and the ability to separate uncertain audio from clear annotation mistakes. No degree is required.
You don’t have to match every requirement exactly. We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, levels of experience and transferable skills.
Pay and working arrangements
Remote contract work, open worldwide to people who meet the language requirements, paying US$41.50 per hour. The project specifies five audit hours per task in both audit collections. A short calibration stage comes before production assignments. Weekly hours and overall project duration are not specified.
