Role overview
Help assess whether AI can reason reliably about real mechanical engineering work. Drawing on your experience with physical products, you will review engineering decisions and produce examples that distinguish a plausible explanation from a technically sound, practical answer.
What you’ll be doing
• Evaluate product designs, simulation results, test plans and failure analyses for technical accuracy.
• Examine trade-offs involving materials, thermal behaviour, dynamics, vibration, controls, reliability and manufacturability.
• Identify invalid assumptions, unsuitable boundary conditions or conclusions that are not supported by the analysis.
• Develop engineering problems, reference answers and grading criteria that explain what a strong response should contain.
Who this could suit
Mechanical engineers with substantial responsibility for physical products and deep expertise in at least one area such as structural analysis and FEA, thermal engineering, mechanical design, or dynamics and controls. Experience at a hardware manufacturer is preferred.
What you’ll need
At least five years of professional mechanical engineering experience, including three recent years actively working on hardware design, analysis, testing, validation or integration. Management-only experience does not satisfy the practical requirement. You should be confident with the CAD, CAE, FEA, CFD or instrumentation tools relevant to your specialism and able to explain your engineering decisions clearly. The listing specifies a bachelor’s degree as its education level.
You don’t have to match every requirement exactly. We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, levels of experience and transferable skills.
Pay and working arrangements
Remote contract work paying $100–$120 per hour. Weekly hours and project duration are not specified in the listing.
